The
Newcomers Gourmet Club Life is too delicious to spend it in the kitchen with a glass of bad wine and the same old stale take-out! The Newcomers Gourmet Club evolved out of a love for cooking, enjoying a glass of great wine and entertaining friends and family. When people gather in a kitchen or around a table to break bread together, it is a delightful experience in a warm inviting atmosphere unlike any other. Our group loves to enjoy delicious appetizers, spectacular salads, unique and interesting entrees, aromatic coffees, interesting wines and liqueurs, and “to-die-for” desserts! It’s all about gathering of friends who share a passion for food - cooking it, plating it and eating it. The Gourmet Club usually meets once per month and shares a special five-course meal inside or outside in our beautiful mountain community. We love to be adventurous and experiment with new cuisines or gourmet ingredients, unlike the recipes you would find at a typical supper. Some of our gourmet dinners are based on a theme such as a SC Lowcountry beach party to welcome summer, a Mexican Fiesta to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, or a Mardi Gras celebration filled with Cajun and Creole specialties. Many of our past dinners have focused on new or favorite recipes from a particular cuisine such as French, Moroccan, Italian, Japanese, Pan Asian, German or Southern Comfort Food. The current Gourmet Club consists of 12 members. The hosting couple of the month researches, selects and distributes all of the recipes and asks each couple to prepare and bring the dishes pre-cooked, which makes for a speedier evening. Some spectacular dishes, however, are just best cooked right on the spot – you decide! The hosting couple is responsible for the main course, cocktails, liqueurs and coffee.
